Court Visitation Project-General Instructions

Purpose:

To experience firsthand the workings of a local court and make a written report

describing your observations.

What:

Observe at least two hours of court proceedings. It would be best if the two hours

could all be part of one trial but that may not be feasible given ever changing court

schedules and the times you have available.

Report:

Your written report must:

1.

Be a long paper

2.

Be well written (in English or German) without grammar or spelling errors

3.

Contain

a.

Your student number or name.

b.

The following specific information

i.

Name of Court

ii.

Name of the Judge

iii.

Name of the Case or Cases

iv.

Day and time of observation

v.

Type of Proceeding(s)

vi.

Outcome (if available)

c.

A description of what you observed.

d.

Most importantly, your impressions and/or reactions.
