Q.1. A plant is to be design to produce 40 tons/day of liquid CO2 using the flue gases from a furnace as raw material. The furnace is specially design to produce maximum of CO2 and at the same time to keep the CO and O2 concentration below 0.5%. The average composition of the leaving gas is CO2-17.5%, 02-0.3%, N2-82% CO-0.2%. It is proposed to use two end DEA solution as solvent. The liquid from the absorber is sent to a stripping tower where 95% is recovered and the regenerated solvent is used for the absorption process at 35C. The tower is to be operated at a pressure of 910mm Hg. Design a suitable tray tower. The equilibrium data at 35C is: X 0.2 0.3 0.4 0.5 0.6 0.65 0.7 P*(mm 0.27 2.24 10 35.5 144.4 237 360 Hg) Y 3.5*104 2.95*10-3 1.33*10-2 0.049 0.235 0.453 0.9 Data: density of gas=1.23 kg/m; density of liquid=1024kg/m; viscosity of the liquid=1.5 cp; viscosity of the gas=0.01738 cp; Molecular weight of DEA=105.14; surface tension of DEA=48.5 dynes/cm; diffusivity=0.165 cm-/s
