CREATING A TEAM CHARTER

A team charter acts like your group's compass and will hopefully help individuals find their way within the team. It is a written document that sets out your group's scope purpose, goals, rules, and so on. It should be written as a declaration that is signed by each team member.

Your team charter can be as expansive as you feel is necessary. I am looking for certain components within the charter:

A) How and when will the team meet? (Including if your group plans to use technology, (like Zoom), or social media etc. to communicate).

B) What does success look like for our team. Include a SMART goal to help your team maintain strategic alignment. S-Specific, M-Measurable, A-Attainable, R-Relevant, T- Time Based.

C) How will decisions be made? How will disagreements or conflicts be resolved? Teams are allowed to "fire" unproductive team members, however the process for the firing must be defined within your charter.

D) To be effective as a team, there are several roles that need to be filled. Who will fill these roles? What are the specific responsibilities of each of these roles?

E) Are there values or principles that your team wishes to promote? How will you identify them?

F) Signatures of all team members
