Cross examining witnesses assists the court in deciphering the truth because the process extracts details and information from the testimonies of persons that may have personal knowledge of the defendant or of the facts in the case. Cross examining can also reveal untruths in testimones and may open a door for opposing counsel to attack those testimonies. These testimonies can either give credit in support of facts or alternatively, these testimonies can also discredit others and others' testimonies. The goal is create a comprehensive picture for the court and jury in order for them to make an informed decision
