Currently theft of a Texas driver license or identification card is a Class B misdemeanor. The punishments for a person convicted of a Class B misdemeanor is six months in a county jail and/or a fine not to exceed $2,000 dollars. Do you agree or disagree with the level of classification for said crime? Why do you agree or why do you disagree? Should it be a Class C misdemeanor that carries only a fine of up to $500 dollars. Any other crimes such as Burglary of Habitation, Aggravated Robbery or Robbery, that the perpetrator might have committed are separate offenses from the Theft of a DL or ID charge. Or should the crime classification be a Class A misdemeanor if so, what's the punishments for a Class A misdemeanor?
