Create a set of Pivot Tables that will be used in an executive dashboard to help users find the answers to the business questions below (see detailed instructions below).
In this scenario, you are a reporting tool designer. You will use MS Excel Pivot Tables to help the business answer activity and performance questions. Keep in mind you are not only asked to find answers but to build a table that will help others find answers to similar questions. As such, your Pivot Table must be set up to be reusable. For example, if your boss is looking for the best-selling product in 2020, your report design allows them to also find the best-selling product in 2023 (hint: use slicers on a dimension; what is this?)
Note: Your boss is a senior and needs to be able to read the screenshots you take. Crop screenshots and enlarge them to remove empty/blank spaces.
In presenting the answer, the Pivot Tables must show the proper dimensions as rows and measures as columns that will be most relevant to answer the question.
In what quarters did our customer Sabor MX order the two highest dollar amounts of products? (Hint: dimension (row) Customer, measure (columns) dollar amount) Who is the best performer among our sales force (Sales rep with the highest order amount)? (Think: what is the dimension (row)? and what is the measure (column)?) Bob James did not bring orders in what quarter? What is our best-selling product and how much revenue (order amount) did it generate? What products were sold in Quarter 1 and only in Quarter 1? (use Quarter) Excel adds two new columns (fields) to the PivotTable Fields Using slicers and sorting is mandatory in at least the two questions that need them. Use Slicers and Sorting to your advantage in finding answers. For example, if you need to find the highest amount, sort descending by amount. Doing this will show the answer at the top. Let MS Excel do the work for you. Although finding the answers visually in this exercise is possible, you would not be able to do it if you had thousands of products or customers. Be resourceful :) Make sure that for each question and answer, you include the following: Question Answer A brief explanation of what you did to find the answer (be brief, ok to use numbered bullet list of steps) Cropped screenshot (see tips below) of the specific Pivot Table view where you found the answer to the question. Include slicers and/or field panel to show your work. Crop and paste only the focus area in the screen (not all your computer screen). This will render a readable shot and will make it easier to grade accurately. In finding answer slicers, sorting and filtering MUST be used when needed. Points will be deducted if these tools are expected but not used. Type your name on the top left corner of your spreadsheet (Cell A1), so it shows in all screenshots Do not screenshot all of your computer screen, screenshot only the section of your screen that shows the work you did.
