CVS is endeavoring to expand into Haiti with walk-in clinics for the Haitians needing medical care that can be offered in this type of medical facility. CVS currently has a total of 9,800 CVS Pharmacy stores in 49 states in the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Brazil. The Target market in Haiti for any type of health care services, especially to establish the walk-in clinics would be in the five largest cities in Haiti where the biggest concentration of population is located. The five targeted cities would be Port-au-Prince, Delmas 73, Petionville, Port-de-Paix and Croix-des-Bouquets. By concentrating on these five cities CVS would be able to reach approximately 2,379,841 people which is about 22% of the entire population of Haiti. By focusing on these five cities CVS has the greatest opportunity for a company in the health industry. The rivalry conditions that will have an impact on CVS establishing walk-in clinics in Haiti could come from product introductions. It is difficult to introduce new things many times to people who have never heard of what you are trying to introduce to them. In Haiti pharmacies are not the main source of medicine, street vendors are. So, getting people to trust going to a pharmacy in a permanent building could prove to be difficult. The purpose CVS has for expansion in Haiti with walk-in clinics is the health need that is there for especially children under the age of five and for pregnant women. The World Health Organization calls it The Haiti Crisis: Health Risks. "Haiti has the highest infant and maternal mortality, the worst malnutrition and the worst Aids situation in the Americas." Malnutrition in children is epidemic with around one-quarter of children suffering from chronic malnutrition and three to six percent suffer from acute malnutrition. Around half of the deaths in children younger 3 than five years old are due to respiratory infections and diarrhea. Around twenty-five percent of the mothers delivering infants have some sort of complication. At least forty percent of the population has no access to basic health care and seventy-six percent of deliveries are done by non-qualified personnel. Half of the population has no access to medicine and only half of the children receive vaccinations. Over the period of 24 months, CVS could develop a large market share of walk-in clinics within a pharmacy since pharmacies are for all practical purposes nonexistent in Haiti. The lower income Haitian gets medication from street vendors and not from a pharmacist. Since this type of service is nonexistent financially the only way to aim is up since CVS would be financially starting at the bottom of the ladder. Branding expectation must be built as well since CVS has no brand awareness in Haiti. The strategic marketing objective that would be best for CVS to develop a presence in Haiti would be that CVS has a stable free cash flow. Therefore, they would be able to spend the necessary funds to establish a walk-in clinic in Haiti for the people who truly need it. CVS could also use their status in the U.S. to get the Haitian government's support to help with the health concerns in Haiti.
