Cynthia, a resident of New York State, goes to a lawn party at her friend Jack's home in Westchester County. While she is there, an argument breaks out between two guests, both of whom have been drinking heavily throughout the afternoon. The two guests are Jim, from Philadelphia (PA), and Carl, from Trenton (NJ). Carl becomes so enraged at Jim that he picks up a bocce ball from the lawn and throws it at Jim. However, due to his intoxication (or just his bad aim), Carl misses Jim and hits Cynthia in the head. Cynthia was standing on the lawn looking out over the lake at the time, and did not see or hear the argument taking place, nor did she see the bocce ball being thrown. As a result of being hit with the bocce ball, Cynthia is in a coma for three weeks, and sustains well over $500,000 in medical-related expenses, lost wages, and other damages. Would Cynthia be able to bring a lawsuit in the U.S.
