Dan is a successful lawyer in London and a good friend of Rob's father, Graham. One day, Dan calls graham to invite him to his 50th birthday party later in the year. During their telephone conversation, Graham tells Dan that his son, Rob, has graduated from the university and got a training contract from one of the top law firms in London. After hearing this news, Dan telephones Rob and tells him that he can stay Dan's flat in London free of charge until he is fully qualified. Rob is happy to accept the offer. To express his gratitude, Graham brings a bottle of Lafite Rothschild 1982 as a birthday gift when attending his birthday party, which is worth around 5,000. Rob also buys Dan a birthday gift of a Sageflyfishing rod which costs him 1,000. After moving into Dan's flat, Rob meets another trainee lawyer in the firm, Alex, at a dinner. During their conversation, Alex complained about the difficulty in finding affordable accommodation in London. Rob tells Alex that he is living in his Uncle Dan's flat. There is a spare room which Dan could let it to him for 500 per month. But Alex is concerned that Dan may not agree. Rob promises that he will get consent from Dan if Alex pays for Rob's meal. Alex happily did so. Next day when Rob telephoned and tells him of his agreement with Alex. Dan not only does not want to let the flat to Alex but also asks Rob to move out because Dan now wants to use the flat himself. Advise Rob on contract liabilities with Dan and Alex respectively.
