Daniel is a support worker in a residential aged care facility caring for people who need low care and high care including dementia. Mark is a 78-year-old independent client in the facility who self - medicates. Mark asks Daniel to give him insulin injection as he was finding it hard to see the reading in the syringe. Daniel refuses to do so since he was not a medication endorsed worker. But Mark said it was very easy and that he could teach him how to do it. Mark threatened that if he didn't do it, he will make a complaint against Daniel. He was a new staff member and got scared; hence he couldn't deny his request. So, he injected insulin and asked Mark not to tell anyone. Daniel discussed the matter with Tina, his co-worker. She was not sure if it could cause any problem later. However, she advised him to check the legal and ethical requirements for a support worker. Since Daniel was her friend, Tina did not report it to her supervisor. But she talked to other residents about Mark's rude behaviour. The next day when another senior support worker, Collins went to see Mark, he asked him the same thing. When he refused, Mark said, "Daniel did it yesterday. Then why can't you do?" Collins reported the matter to their supervisor and documented in the appropriate forms.
