Danny Glover is a writer for the Weekly Paper. In his popular column, he writes an article which names several prominent Indigenous Australians. In the article, Glover claims that these individuals are 'not really indigenous', as their parents are non-indigenous, or that they grew up in an urban setting. Glover states that these individuals are 'vermin' and 'parasites', as they are claiming and receiving financial payments from the government, on the basis of being Indigenous Australians.

Glover's article contains numerous factual errors regarding the background and upbringing of the individuals that he names. Glover did not attempt to contact the individuals to check the information in the article.

Members of the group named in the article come to you for advice. They want to take legal action in respect of the article, but they do not want to sue for defamation. Advise the group regarding their rights in respect of the article, including any defences that may be raised.
