Danone & Wahaha a bitter sweet partnership

As partners in the JV, Danone and Wahaha both should have an unwavering interest to safeguard the JV's success. However, both sides have engaged in certain dubious activities that undermined the success of the JV. On the one end, Danone had repeatedly acquired the shareholding of Wahaha's competitors and assigned Danone executives as the acquired companies' directors. On the other end, Wahaha had established numerous non-JV companies, which sold products with the same Wahaha trademark as that of the JV. Did Danone and Wahaha behave irrationally? If not, how do you explain their behavior?
