Data: infant_mort.csv Description: The infmort.csv is a collection of data for infant mortality according to income and region. The infant mortality in regions of the world may be related to per capita income and whether oil is exported. Variables: region: Region of the world, Africa, Europe, Asia or the Americas income: Per capita annual income in dollars mortality: Infant mortality in deaths per 1000 births oil: Does the country export oil or not? 1. Plot the histogram of mortality. Comment if the distribution of mortality is normally distributed by visual examination. 2. Conduct a (natural) logarithm transformation of mortality variable. Plot the histogram of the new log-transformed mortality variable. (Hint: generate a new variable: generate log_mort = log(mortality)). Comment on the figure. 3. Perform a two-sample t-test (with equal variances) to compare the logarithm of mortality (i.e. log_mort) between the countries with oil exports and the countries without oil exports. Comment on the results. 4. Perform a simple regression with logarithm of mortality as the response variable and oil as the explanatory variable. Compare the statistic of mean difference in logarithm of mortality in 3) and the coefficient estimate of oil in this fitted simple regression. Are they the same or different? Why? 5. Interpret the coefficient of oil in the fitted regression model in 4). 6. Perform a one-way ANOVA with the logarithm of mortality as the response variable and region as predictor. State the hypotheses and report the results at 0.05 significance level. 7. Based on analysis results of 6), identify the two regions with the largest difference in mortality. Also report the average mortality of these two regions. 8. Perform Kruskal-Wallis test with the mortality as the response variable and region as predictor. State the hypotheses and report the results at 0.05 significance level. 9. Based on analysis results of 8), identify the two regions with the largest difference in mortality. Conduct the Dunn's test. State the hypotheses and report the results at 0.05 significance level. 10. Based on the results above, comment if regions are the only factor to affect the mortality rate? Why or Why not
