David is 35 years old and lives with Mona, his mother, who is bedridden. David cares for Mona by providing her with foods and changing her medical dressings, Mona gives David money to cover the costs of the foods, and pays the mortgage on the house.
David begins a relationship with Jane. After five weeks Jane starts to stay at David's house at the week end. One night, Jane surprises David by telling him that she has booked a holiday for them both - two weeks in Spain, departing the next day.
David expresses his concern about who will look after his mother. Jane says that he has "done his bit" and that David's sister Vera, who lives few blocks away, should help out for once.
David telephones Vera and leaves a message on her answer phone telling her that she will have to look after Mona for the next two weeks. When Vera arrives home she accidently erases her telephone message before she has the change to reply them.
Whilst David and Jane are on holiday, Mona's condition worsens considerably. When they arrive home they find her unconscious, having become ill through lack of foods and from infections causes by unchanged dressings. Shocked, David rushes her to o=hospital, where she is seen briefly by harassed doctor, Simon, but is then left unattended in a hospital corridor. Mona dies shortly afterwards.
