Facilities Management: Management at the The University of Texas at Austin Physical Plant is interested in reducing the average time to completion of routine work orders. The time to completion is defined as the difference between the date of receipt of a work order and the date closing information is entered. The number of labor hours charged to each work order and the cost of materials are two variables believed to be related to the time to completion of the work order. Management wants to know if there is any difference in the time to completion of work orders, on average, for different types of buildings. Buildings are classified into four types on the TCU campus: residence halls, athletic, academic, and administrative. In answering the question, take into account the possible effect of labor hours charged and materials cost. The data for a random sample of 72 work orders (chosen from a population of 11,720) are available in the worksheet entitled "WORKORDZR". The variables are as follows. DAYS = number of days to complete each work order HOURS = number of hours of labor charged to each work order MATERIAL = cost of materials charged to each work order (in USD) BUILDING = 1 for residence halls (RH) 2 for athletic buildings (ATB) 3 for academic buildings (ACB) 4 for administrative buildings (ADB) Regress DAYS on HOURS, MATERIAL, and BUILDING. Code the BUILDING variable so that administrative buildings serve as the reference group. (a) State the model equation. DAYS = Bo + B1HOURS + B2MATERIAL + B3RH + B4ATB + B5ACB + BEADB DAYS = Bo + B1HOURS + B2MATERIAL + B3RH + B4ATB + B5ACB DAYS = Bo + BiHOURS + B2MATERIAL + B3BUILDING DAYS = Bo + B1HOURS + B2MATERIAL + B3ATB + B4ACB + BSADB DAYS = Bo + B HOURS + B MATERIAL + B3RH + B4ACB + B5ADB (b) Is there a difference in average time to completion among the different building types? Perform a hypothesis test to answer this question. Use a 5% level of significance. State the hypotheses to be tested. O Ho: At least one of the coefficients is not equal to 0. Ha: B3 = B4 = B5 = 0 Ho: B3 = B4 = B5 = 0 Ha: None of the coefficients are equal to 0. Ho: B3 = B4 = B5 = 0 Ha: At least one of the coefficients is not equal to 0. Ho: None of the coefficients are equal to 0. Ha: B3 = B4 = B5 = 0 Interpret the hypotheses you specified above. Ho: At least one explanatory variable is important in explaining/predicting days to completion. Ha: None of the explanatory variables are important in explaining/predicting days to completion. O Ho: There is no significant difference in days to completion among the different building types after accounting for hours of labor and material cost. Ha: There is a significant difference in days to completion among the different building types after accounting for hours of labor and material cost.
