Dean is an older gentleman of 68 who lives with his aged mother of 90. Dean has noticed his mother has started to sleep for most of the day and therefore is forgetting to eat. Dean is suffering from chronic arthritis and due to the pain in his hips is feeling unsteady and has nearly fallen a couple of times when trying to do the shopping. Dean does not want to use a wheel chair at this stage as he is a larger gentleman of 6ft weighing 140kgs and is fiercely independent, often refusing to take medication as he feels it makes him drowsy and incapable of looking after his mother. Dean's mother is capable of showering dressing and toileting herself, however feels it is her place as matriarch of the family to be looked after by her child and therefore does no housework, shopping or cooking anymore citing failing eye sight and apart from this she sleeps in her chair for most of the day.
