Dear all.
Actone an a product in itself ad as a precureor to other chemical components especially Methyl
Thanks to Dr. Tuntoe and his colleberatos io introbuce a moltimnit chemical prosess which is
sown in Figure 1 for the production of Acetone from IPA (2-propanol) Such a process taling
advantage of dehydrogenation of IPA through a catalytic reactor is widely used to alleviate the
acctone', maket shoetags, In addition to Acstone, Hydrogen is andeler highly beneficial product
of the proess. Not celly to peepare the process far purchasing Hydrogen as a byproduct but alse
to increase the Aceione's yicld, some HFXs are implemented to cool down the hot reacior efluent.
Consequently, the heavier enmponents of the stream are going to the liquid plase and the ligh
in the vapor phase. To put Acelone back to the process, an absorption column is used in which
freshwater is fed to the coliume as the ahsorhent. Acelene absorted in water is going to mix with
the liquid phase of the cooled reactor outlet flow and a waler-miscible system is hindod over to
the distillatice eolumns where the nain product is gaing to he separated.
Briefly, in this projoct, you are called to simulate the well-studied phase of the process where
Actone is willing to enrich. At this phase, known as the seqaration too, frev distillation columns
Actone are applied to separate the desired probact (Acetivee) from the byproduet (Hydrogen), the
(C-1), known as the Acetene column, is placed for the following reasons:
To remave light imparities
To propare the Acetone product as pure as possible
To racycle unreacied components
While Acetone is goeng cut from the top, the bottow product of the column which is rich in water
and IPA is proseeding to be separated in the second column (C-2), known as the Waner column
consider the exit flow of the Flash tank down in Fig. 1 is coming into the Acstone column with
consider the exit flow of the Flash the compositian sown in Table. 1.
Your mission is to design each distillation column reganding the following constrints:
Senice fluid at esch condenser is cooling water.
Each foed enters the distillation column in pressure between the fop and botom pressure
The Acesone recovery at the distillate of the C-1 must not be less than 99.5% mol.
The Acelone purity at the botiom of C-1 must be as low as possible.
The Wiate purity at the botiom of the Witer column (C-2) muat be as high as posaible.
The Water purity at the lop of the C-2 musi not be more than 50% mol.
The IPA exsovery at the top of the C-2 muat not he less than 99.5%
The reflus ratio at the C-1 and C-2 must not proced 5.
The neflus ratio at the C-3 can follow the heuristic of R-1.5R min
