Dear Writer, good morning,

That is a POST on the discussion board from Cathy. Please kindly respond to her Post accordingly. Thank you.

T-tests are the statistical methods frequently used to analyze data (Mishra et al., 2019). Two common things among these methods are dependent variables must be in a continuous scale and normally distributed, and comparisons are made between the means/average (Mishra et al., 2019). When the size of the sample is small, the mean /average is more affected by the outliers, so it is necessary to keep a sufficient sample size while using these methods (Mishra et al., 2019).

The t-test will be my choice of a statistical test to use in conjunction with my selected research design of quantitative collected data. My research involves a once successful treatment for menopausal women that was abruptly interrupted by a women's health initiative (WHI) study claiming that the harm outweighed the benefits (Palacios et al., 2019). This study will reflect the effects of the education provided to the target population, if it is successful in increasing hormone treatment or if the status quo remains.

After publishing the WHI results in 2003, the study ceased and most women stopped their treatment, causing them to suffer from post-menopausal symptoms, some with serious issues (Palacios et al., 2019). Other studies have disputed the WHI results and the WHI eventually published that their study was flawed (Palacios et al., 2019). The research project intends to give current facts for a more informed decision on hormone treatment and menopausal symptoms by easing the fears previously published.

A bit of history on the invention of the T-test that was formulated by William Sealy Gosset of the UK with a background in natural science and mathematics. He was employed at Guinness Brewery and responsible for assessing the quality of raw ingredients of the beer and the beer itself. Through mathematics, he formulated how to make this with a small number of samples and wanted to publish it in a paper titled "The probable error of a mean". The brewery wanted to remain anonymous and the fact that they were using the method and insisted that he publish under a pseudonym, hence the name Student-t distribution and the Student-t test (Griffiths, 2023).
