Decide which type of hypothesis test you want to do:

1 sample mean

1 sample proportion

Select the appropriate topic and data set provided by your instructor.

Sample at least 30 records from the provided data set using the one of the following four techniques covered this semester.

Verify your sample satisfies the Central Limit Theorem.

Perform the appropriate statistical calculations for your data.

Create an inference model using hypothesis testing, including a conclusion.

Create a confidence interval for your sample.

Part 1: Topic selection (3pts)

Select a data set (circle or highlight your selection) (1pts)

Option 1: Major League Baseball (quantitative data)

Option 2: YouGov voters interview (categorical data)

Inference topic - Once you have chosen the type of data you would like to work with, selected the variable you would like to focus on for your analysis. Only pick one variable for the project! You will find a null hypothesis for each variable in the document titled "Project Hypothesis." Find the null hypothesis for your chosen variable and create an alternative based on the assumed value of the null provided.

Write your null and alternative hypotheses here: (2pts)

Part 2: Collecting Data (13pts)

Sample at least 30 records from the provided data set using one of the sampling techniques from Module 6 (simple random, systematic, stratified, cluster). Then verify that your sample satisfies the Central Limit Theorem. If it does not, continuing sampling more records until it does (you can add additional rows to the table). Replace the name of the column with the actual variable names. (5pts)

Index (record number), Strata/Cluster (if applicable), Variable

Central Limit Theorem: (3pts)

Describe the sampling technique you used: (5pts)

Part 3: Descriptive Statistics (4pts)

In this part you will explore your data through some descriptive statistics.

Note: This part of the project will depend on which option you chose in Part 1. Follow the directions carefully and make sure you are looking at the correct option!

Circle the option that you selected in Part 1:

Option 1: Provide the sample mean and the sample standard deviation for your sample.

Option 2: Provide the sample proportion, standard deviation of the sample proportion for your sample.

Make sure you clearly label all of your statistic, you will use them in the next part of the project. Being clear here will make your next step much easier.

Part 4: Confident Interval and Hypothesis Testing (30pts)

In this part you will calculate a confidence interval and conduct a hypothesis test for your datasets. For the hypothesis test, you will be using the null and alternative provided for you by your instructor.

Note: Just like in Part 3 of the project, your confidence interval and hypothesis test will depend on which option you chose in Part 1.

Reaffirm the model you are using for this project as specified in your Part 1. Put a check mark under the option you chose, and proceed accordingly.

One sample mean

One sample proportion

Hypothesis Test: Perform the appropriate hypothesis test by hand using a level of significance of 0.05. Make sure to follow all steps from class and clearly state the conclusion and interpretation at the end. (14pts)

Confidence Intervals: Calculate the confidence intervals specified by hand.

1.Construct a 90% confidence interval (6pts)

2.Construct a 99% confidence interval (6pts)

3.Give a brief (couple sentences) explanation about the difference between the level of confidence and how it affects your interval. (4pts)
