As the Chief of Surgery, you would hate to lose this employee, but you strongly disapprove of people who abuse their power. You want the behaviour stopped quickly before the hospital is slapped with a lawsuit, or worse. Objective: Stop the behavior immediately while maintaining doctor as employee. What type of influence tactic(s) will you use here, and why? Situation 2 Background: You are a manager and are concerned that your colleagues (other managers at the same level) in your somewhat risk-averse company have not completely grasped the need to be more competitive. Metrics regarding the firm's profit and loss show the company has been slipping steadily, yet most of these other managers do not perceive a need for change. You want to encourage them to implement a completely new Total Quality program. Objective: Increase motivation of other managers to see the need for change to improve economic gain and benefits of proposed program. What type of influence tactic(s) will you use here, and why? Soft tactics
