This source describes an investigation into the long-term impacts that verbal and psychological abuse from teachers can have upon adolescent students. This article also notes that there is an evident link between verbal abuse and a delay or decrease in a child's psychological development.
I would say that this is an accurate and trustworthy source. Not only is it a proper academic paper, but is a research-based study - all of which indicates to me that the author is seeking to explain their study's findings and what that means in regards to their thesis and abstract.
The data found and discussed within this source is helpful when considering my selected problem (my fairly-new coworker exhibiting a pattern of harmful and disrespectful behavior towards our Boys & Girls Club site's youth members), as it allows me to evaluate the severity and impact of my coworker's actions towards our site's members. This source helps me to fit the children's safety and health into the equation.
The main gap that I was able to identify within this source was what the difference in impact verbal and psychological abuse has upon child students based on it being from their established school teacher or from their lead staff at an afterschool care center.

This source that I selected is another research paper that dives into the pros and cons of young adults working and maintaining a consistent job. It informs readers that the impacts of working at a young age can greatly vary between adolescents, as it is very dependent upon environmental, socioeconomic, etc. factors. Overall, this source comes to the conclusion that working at a young age can be extremely beneficial to the long-term growth and success of the worker.
Similar to my first source I described within this discussion, this source I would also evaluate as being accurate and trustworthy. The fact that it is an academic and reviewed paper alone tells me that it is a source that I can depend upon when furthering my understanding of my problem.
This source helps me to better understand my problem with my coworker as at the time of the situation, my coworker was newly 18-years-old and had never had a job before. She had just recently graduated high school and had no prior experience in a professional environment. As someone who went through a very similar experience at 18-years-old, I wanted to find and include a source that could help me to understand how that experience could impact someone in our shared position.
A gap that I was able to identify within the source was the lack of availability towards information regarding any potential or proven risks in regards to adolescents participating within the workforce; the majority of the information I was able to locate within the source was largely focused upon the benefits.
Perna, L. W., & Odle, T. K. (n.d.). Recognizing the Reality of Working College Students. American Association of University Professors. Retrieved February 6, 2024, from https://www.aaup.org/article/recognizing-reality-working-college-studentsLinks to an external site.
This article discusses the relationship between college students and the need to enter within the workforce while still being a student. It describes the reality of our world today, where more and more college students are needing to work while also being a full time student in order to survive and afford basic necessities. The harms and potential benefits of this situation are discussed within this article.
This source is not the most trustworthy of sources; although, it is still proven to hold relevant data towards my problem. This article does include citations and quotations from scientific studies and research that help to affirm the information the article discusses. Though the data does not come primarily from this source, it is still referenced and reviewed.
I decided to use and explore this article as it would allow me to further my understanding towards the overall circumstances that my coworker was dealing with, so that I could better understand her reasoning as to why and how her behavior began and escalated. The first source I included that discussed adolescents in the workforce was not as forthcoming with information that was relevant to my problem - which is why I sought to also look into this one.
In terms of gaps within this source's information as it relates to furthering my understanding of my selected problem, I was not able to identify anything notable that was missing or preventing me from developing my perspective.
The Power of Afterschool Programs in California Council for a Strong America. (2020, September 25). Council for a Strong America. Retrieved February 6, 2024, from https://www.strongnation.org/articles/1341-the-power-of-afterschool-programs-in-californiaLinks to an external site.
This article discusses the impact and importance of Californian afterschool programs upon young students. It informs the reader of the expansive benefits and long-term improvements that attending a Californian afterschool program can have upon a student.
This source - similar to my previous source - is not the most reliable of data sources. This is mainly due to it not being primary research-based or scholarly reviewed. Despite this, however, I would argue that it is still a helpful source when trying to understand the encompassing circumstances of my situation with my coworker.
The information presented within this article is immensely helpful to me when developing my point of view in regards to my problem as it allows me to gain a better understanding of how important our job and our role in our members' lives was. The fact that this article was focused on afterschool programs within California was also helpful, as that is where our afterschool site was.
The most relevant gap that existed within the article's information was again the lack of primary evidence. There was plenty of firsthand and personal opinions from people who were relevant to the topic - but the article lacked the research to attest to the validity of their statements.
