A 1/15 scale model of an aircraft is to be tested in a pressurised wind tunnel operating at a temperature of 288 K. At 288 K, the absolute viscosity for air = 1.79 x 10-5 kg/(m.s), k= 1.4, R = 287 J/(Kg.K). It is intended that the tests should simulate a full scale flight speed of 285 m/s at a height where the temperature is 220 K, the air density is 0.25 kg/m and the absolute viscosity of the air is 1.43 x 105 kg/(m.s). Part (A) Calculate: (i) The Mach number of the real aircraft operating at its normal flight conditions. (ii) The air speed that should be provided in the wind tunnel to achieve Mach number similarity. (iii) The Reynolds number of the real aircraft operating at its normal flight conditions. (iv) The pressure that should be provided in the wind tunnel to achieve Reynolds number similarity. Part (B) If the drag force measured on the model during the test is 3,800 N then what will be the drag on the full-sized aircraft?
