Solution WHS Consultation Report Introduction This report aims to explain the requirements for work health and safety WHS consultation in our workplace as well as how I can contribute to the implementation and maintenance of consultation and participation processes WHS consultation is a legal requirement under the WHS Act and an essential part of managing work health and safety It involves workers and other duty holders in the decision making and risk management process PCBU Responsibilities in Relation to Consultation As a person conducting a business or undertaking PCBU we have a duty to consult with workers and other duty holders on WHS matters This means that we must share relevant information about the matter with workers and other duty holders give workers and other duty holders a reasonable opportunity to express their views and contribute to the decisionmaking process take those views into account before making decisions on WHS matters advise workers and other duty holders of the outcome of consultations We must consult with workers when identifying hazards and assessing risks making decisions about ways to eliminate or minimise those risks making decisions about the adequacy of facilities for the welfare of workers proposing changes that may affect the health or safety of workers We must also consult with workers when developing procedures for consulting with workers on WHS matters resolving WHS issues monitoring workers health and workplace conditions providing information and training for workers We must consult with other duty holders when there is a duty to consult under the WHS Act or Regulations there is a shared duty in relation to the same matter the activities of one duty holder may affect the health or safety of another duty holders workers Some examples of other duty holders are other PCBUs or contractors that are working in the same workplace PCBUs that utilise labourhire designers importers and manufacturers of plant substances or structures persons authorising work on electrical equipment principal contractors for construction work My Responsibilities and Role in Relation to the Consultation Process As a WHS professional my responsibilities and role in relation to the consultation process are to facilitate and coordinate consultation activities between workers and other duty holders provide advice and guidance on WHS consultation requirements and best practices support and assist health and safety representatives HSRs and health and safety committees HSCs in performing their functions monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of consultation and participation processes identify and address any gaps or issues in consultation and participation processes report on consultation and participation outcomes and recommendations The Resource Support I Will Need To perform my role effectively I will need the following resource support access to relevant information and data on WHS matters adequate time and budget to plan and conduct consultation activities appropriate tools and methods to communicate and consult with workers and other duty holders training and development opportunities to enhance my skills and knowledge on WHS consultation feedback and recognition from management and stakeholders on my performance and contribution Timeframes that Might be Applicable The timeframes for consultation and participation processes may vary depending on the nature and urgency of the WHS matter the complexity and scope of the decision and the availability and preferences of the parties
