Describe the origins and content of the selected meme: creator if known, where it was posted and when; what is pictured and captioned; origin story of meme template. Be very specific and detailed about images; the reader should be able to envision the meme without an actual image of it (though you do include a screenshot of the meme). Make no judgements. Paragraph 2: ANALYZE (approx. 350 words) Select three elements (panels, sections of the caption, specific parts of the image, key word, font, punctuation, colour etc) of the meme to look more closely at. These should be relevant to the message of the meme and make a contribution to it. Comment on what meaning each element communicates, including how it relates to the sociopolitical issue engaged. Don't just describe it or say what it means. HOW does it make meaning? Ensure you are providing evidence for your claims about meme elements. Paragraph 3: INTERPRET (approx. 150 words) Having engaged in an in-depth analysis of this meme, consider its overall message. What themes does it engage and what does it say about them? Why is this significant? You may use one or more of your outside sources here. Generate abstract ideas-race, gender, free speech, delusion, oppression are all ideas that could be engaged by a meme. Then consider what position/thesis/stance the meme takes on these ideas. What is being argued? Essentially, what is the thesis of this meme? Paragraph 4: EVALUATE (approx. 100 words) Consider whether this was an example of an effective meme. What was its purpose? Did it fulfill that purpose? Did it resonate with you personally?
