Description Select an interesting children\'s picture storybook suitable to be shared with a child aged either from birth - 2 years or 3-4 years of age. Using this book, prepare yourself to conduct a Book Introduction and to engage in using a Dialogic Reading approach with a child. Create your own follow-up activity (based on the book) to support this child\'s language and literacy learning. Find a child of the appropriate age that you can read the book to/with, and do your book-based activity with. *Please note that you must seek Parental permission from the child\'s parent/guardian, prior to conducting these activities. You\'ll need their parent to sign this AT2_Parent_ConsentForm_ECE230.doc and you need to upload a copy of this into the AT2 DropBox when you submit your assignment. Conduct a Book Introduction and engage in Dialogic Reading of the book with the child. nb. You will learn about Book Introductions and Dialogic Reading in our ECE230 Unit. Conduct the Book Introduction and then read the book to the child using the Dialogic Reading approach. Pay close attention to the dialogue that takes place between the two of you. eg. The types of prompts that you used and the questions that you asked. Also, focus on the childs responses. You are interested in the words said. If you wish (with parental permission indicated in the Consent Form), you might want to record (audio or video) the book reading session for you to listen to afterward, OR if they do not give permission for audio or video, you could write your own notes immediately after the activity to help you recall what took place. After reading the book, encourage the child to engage in the follow-up book-based activity that you have prepared. If the activity involves drawing or making something you could take a photograph of the artifact (without the child) to include in your assignment and let the child keep the item that was made. nb. Do not include any photographs or videos of the child in your assignment. Once you have completed the dialogic reading activity and the follow-up activity, thank the child for their time etc. Later, in your own time, reflect upon what happened during the activity and start creating your own video reflection for your AT2 submission. nb. You may like to write some notes first and then read them or rehearse them before videoing yourself. Film yourself doing the following (check the AT2 criteria in the rubric):
1. Show us the book you chose and justify what age group this book is well suited to and why.
Discuss aspects of the book. 2. Conduct a Book introduction to the camera (Pretend that a child is interacting with you).
. Talk to the camera (us) and explain how you used a Dialogic reading approach with the child. Discuss the type of dialogue that you shared, give examples, and reflect upon whether it was effective or not.
4. Describe the follow-up activity that you created that was based on the book and explain how it would be well suited to this age group and the child\'s language and literacy learning. 5. Reflect upon your book selection and its suitability. Discuss future book selection, reading approaches you will use and strategies to encourage reading in Early Childhood Settings.
