Description Your Vision and Scope document, containing your Business Requirements, has been approved by your Executive Sponsor. You are now ready to begin eliciting stakeholder/user requirements. As the project's Business Analyst, you must create a plan for how to approach the elicitation activities. You have been asked to develop a 10-minute presentation, with accompanying PowerPoint slides, and present your plan to the project team.
Rationale
This assignment will evaluate the following Course Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the importance of requirements engineering to the successful completion of a software project using appropriate industry terminology.
- Explain how requirements engineering processes differ depending on the type of project and methodology used using appropriate industry terminology.
- Develop high-quality requirements for the successful delivery of a software product.
Directions
Begin by discussing as a group each of your project scenarios from your previous assignment. After deciding as a group, select one person's project as the basis for this assignment.
As a group, you will plan the facilitated elicitation activities that you will conduct as part of your project. There are 2 components to this assignment.
Part 1: PowerPoint Presentation
Your group's PowerPoint presentation should be structured in the following way. Refer to the Sample Elicitation Plan templateOpens in a new tab for an idea of how to structure your group's presentation.
A. Summarize your project context
- Briefly describe the needs and pain points that led to the project.
- Briefly summarize the solution - the project's vision and scope, at a high level.
B. Favoured user classes
- Identify your favoured user classes. Depending on your project, these could be internal to the company, external, or both.
- Explain why you are targeting these user classes by relating back to the specific product we're building.
C. Elicitation plan overview
- Your plan should consist of 4 facilitated elicitation activities.
- Tell your audience which elicitation activities you will perform with the user classes you just identified and explain your reasoning for why you put them in that order. (For example, does an earlier activity provide information you will use to conduct a later activity?)
D. Elicitation activity details
- Create a slide for each of the 4 elicitation activities.
- Present your activities in the order which you identified in your elicitation plan.
- For each activity, include:
- What is the purpose of this activity? As in, what are you hoping to learn?
- Who has that information? What user class(es) are you targeting in this activity?
- Why is this elicitation technique the best way to get that information?
- What are the limitations/risks of using that technique?
