1. Design: 30 middle school students were given 20 sentences to read and try to remember. Sentences were either mundane sentences or sentences with typical middle school humor in them (e.g., sentences about bodily functions and the like). Sentences were accompanied by a cartoon depicting the sentence meaning. They were subsequently asked to recall the exact sentences and were scored on the number of words correctly remembered in each sentence.
