Designed flow rate of a water flowline is 300gpm. Selected pump for the process is Taco Model 4013 having an efficiency of 73%. The pamp is used to pump water from a storage tank throagh 500ft of suction piping. The friction loss in the suction line is estimated as 12.5ft. The tank is open to atmosphere at the sea level. It is known that the pressure bead at the sea level is approximately 33 ft of water. Under the operating condition, the expected vapor pressure is 10 psi. The pump and the tank are located 115ft and 125ft above the ground. respectively. The height of water in the tank, i.e., the tank head is expected to be 20ft. Net Positive Suction Head: NPSHH4=hs=hl+h4hv Where, hs Statie suction head (+) or static suction lift (). feel ht - Suction line losses (friction, entranee and fittings), feet h4 - Absolute pressure at the liquid's free surface, in feet of liquid pumped hy - Vapor pressure of liquid at pumping temperature, converted to ft. of liquid Answer the following questions. i) What is the designed pump head? [0.5] ii) What is the pump power? [0.5] iii) What is the impeller size? [0,5] iv) What is the NPSHA? NP.5] v) Do you expect any cavitation under the operating condlitions? Why? [2]
