Despacito is a newly opened Mexican dance club and restaurant in the quiet village of Midsummer. The club opened after obtaining planning permission from the local authority. Some residents of Midsummer are complaining about the smell and the noise generated by Despacito. Every Saturday night is "Salsa Night", and the music blares until 3 a.m. In addition, Despacito's kitchen releases strong fumes that smell of chillies and burnt oil. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m. every evening except on Saturday, when it closes at midnight. Kojo owns a bungalow near the club and has had trouble falling asleep because of the strong smell emanating from the club, particularly at weekends when the kitchen is bustling. Kojo's 10-year-old son hates salsa music and cannot concentrate on his schoolwork because he is too angry and distracted by the noise. Thomas rents a flat nearby and is highly allergic to chilis. He suffers from rashes when in contact with Despacito's kitchen fumes. Gurmeet lives next door to the club, and the pungent fumes have peeled the paint off her front door. Arun has been squatting for 10 days in a vacant garage in the village. The noise from the club interferes with his reading and meditation practice.

Despacito carefully stores a large amount of glowing chemicals on its property to fill the glow sticks they hand out to customers on Salsa Night. Through no fault of Despacito, a tank filled with the substance leaks. The substance travels to Natasha's property next door and ruins her prize-winning orchids and courgettes.
