Despite being the largest economy in the world by 2013, the United States healthcare marketplace was failing many Americans. The US spent 2 1/2 times more than most developing countries in the world and devoted nearly 18% of it GDP to healthcare, significantly more than any other countries. Yet 48 million Americans had been without health insurance as recently as 2011. In 2013 Kaiser/HRET employer health benefits survey, 95% of employers with 50 or more employees reported offering health insurance benefits.
