Despite decades of investments in incentives and strategies to recruit and retain primary care workforce in rural and remote areas, general practices face increasing demand for services without the staff required to meet population health needs. Sustainable, innovative solutions to workforce shortages in these regions are needed urgently. This review identified few high-quality studies evaluating interventions using offsite primary care workforce to deliver ongoing patient care via telehealth to support rural and remote general practices. Further research is required, particularly in Australia where rural health workforce shortages remain a persistent issue impacting providers, patients, and the health care system
