Despite the fact that deviance is a constant in all societies, most people usually conform to social rules, norms, and laws. Why do you think that is? How are norms enforced and what are the consequences for violating them? What are the benefits of going with the flow? Drawbacks?

We have discussed how some actions that were once considered deviant are now considered "normal," desirable, or even heroic. Can you think of any others? Why do you think the conception of deviance changed in that case? What factors played a role in it becoming "normalized"? How did this occur?
