As part of the module assessment, you will participate in an innovation challenge acting as part of a project management team. You will have to plan and be able to advise on the delivery of a proposed solution. The teams will be expected to report on their deliverables during a short presentation and then debate various issues with their counterparts.

Assessed Element

As an outcome of such a practical learning experience, a reflective journal (learning log) is to be produced and submitted. This is the only component of the whole challenge to be formally assessed, to which obviously your group work and presentation will also be crucial inputs. Critical reflection is an important learning technique, being integral to professional practice. The reflective journal will facilitate the development of your meta-cognitive skills by encouraging self-evaluation as well as sorting of the previously acquired knowledge.

Learning Outcomes Assessed:

LO1: justify and integrate all crucial project management elements, processes and methods in order to construct an original methodology to achieve objectives of a particular project or organisation as a whole

LO4: demonstrate originality in tackling and solving problems as well as synthesizing theoretical and practical management perspectives to foster a professional approach to project management.

Knowledge & Skills Assessed:

Practical understanding of the key principles and techniques utilized in project management through applying them in real project situations.

A number of exceptionally important professional skills are developed: verbal communication, critical thinking, creative problem solving, teamwork and leadership, adaptability and effective time management when working under pressure (due to the intensive nature of the challenge).

Emotional intelligence is developed through reflection: namely self-awareness, awareness of others' strengths and weaknesses, managing and supporting others, motivation, self-confidence. Career-focused skills: an understanding of the range of current challenges in project management as well as the ethical professional conduct

Additional Information for Completion of Assessment:

The journal should critically elaborate on your personal role within the group project, reflecting on the experienced actions related to the following themes:

1. Challenges faced and how effectively solutions were found

2. What did you learn through this experience and how may this affect your practice in the future?

3. Personal strengths identified and what is still to learn or improve in your skill set in the future

4. Can you compare your aspirations in the Welcome Week to how you currently feel about the developed skills and obtained knowledge?
