Upon completion of this task, you should be able to demonstrate how to develop and apply electrical system modifications, taking into account a customer's concern.
Tools and Materials
One (1) vehicle, vessel, machinery or equipment requiring you to develop and apply electrical system modifications
Workshop manuals (WSM) for vehicles
ADRs and VSBs relating to electrical system modifications
Testing equipment for electrical system modification such as:
oScan tool
oDigital Multimeter (DDM)
Workshop hand tools
Inspection light
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Safety goggles or glasses with side shields
Steel-toed shoes
Tight fitted clothing
Vehicle protection
Customer Concern:
The customer requires you to install a second battery into the engine bay. You will need to develop and apply electrical system modifications by select a suitable electrical modification.
Procedure:
1. Identify, confirm and present the electrical modifications options to the customer, but also consider the legal and safety impacts of the modifications.
2. Develop, select, validate and document the electrical modifications by using the vehicle manufacturer and modification specifications.
3. Apply, test and document the electrical modifications by safely using workplace tools and equipment.
4. Apply, test and document the electrical modifications by carrying out Post-Modification testing and results are verified and
5. Apply any variations to the electrical modifications required from Post-Modification testing.
6. Document the electrical modifications by completing the Job Cardand National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification, Section LA Engine.
7. Answer the questions between the Job Card.
8. Clean-up work area, tools and equipment are stowed in their appropriate area and finalise Job Card documentationby filling in the Customers Fault, the Cause of the Fault, the Rectification to repair the vehicle and the Parts used on the back of the Job Card.
9. Understand and Verify the Customer's requirements by identifying the reasons for the modification.
