Developing a Personal Ethics Statement
It is very challenging to be a great leader or to have clear life direction without first knowing who you are and being able to communicate that in a very specific way. As part of evaluating "Who Am I", it is helpful to add personal ethics statement by doing the following:
List your top (5) core values (personal values assessment) and include the summary for each value as you understand them from the week's activity.
List (3-5) long term goals.
Personal vision/mission statement - a short statement that describes what you want to become by identifying your strengths, understanding your marketable skills, and reflecting on your personal values. A personal vision/mission statement can be used to guide your decisions and help you stay focused to meet your long-term goals. It is a set of boundaries which exposes what is most important to you. Add mission statement that describes your purpose via the use of long-term goals and what is important to you. (EXAMPLES)
oVision Statement - To use my education to become a curriculum developer for higher education. Curriculum development will allow me to guide the learning objective and enhance the classroom environment through discipline specific practical application.
oMission Statement - To be a leader that is integral in every area of life because integrity is a staple value that places trust at the forefront and allows others to trust alongside of you.
Include words to live by or phrases that define you and shape your ethical behavior. (EXAMPLES)
oTreat others like I want to be treated.
oAlways give people the benefit of the doubt.
What Motivates, Drives, and Influence You? List (2-3) key things that motivate, drive, and influence you in your personal/professional life. Evaluate if/how these are being met.
Identify the legacy you want to leave behind. What mark do you want to leave on the world and how has your skills given you the opportunity to do so.
Now that you have outlined who you are and where you want to go, add a three to for sentence personal ethics statement. This outline and statement should be submitted in the same word document. Include a separate heading for the personal ethics statement.
