Dianne is a 12-year-old girl with Down Syndrome, and is supported by the school's Student Support Unit (SSU) you are working in. Dianne is currently in Year 7, but has an Individual Curriculum Plan, and is working at a Year 4 level for all curriculum areas. You have been asked to work with Dianne and support her in some mainstream classes as she gets anxious around her peers. As part of Dianne's physical therapy, it is important she attends mainstream physical education classes, even though she doesn't enjoy it. Dianne does require one-on-one support and mobility help during PE classes. At times, Dianne can have a limited attention span. Dianne also attends SSU cooking classes to start building life skills which she really enjoys. She displays defiant behaviours when the activities are not the ones she wants to do or she is feeling overwhelmed, which has raised safety concerns.
