Since past three years DIC has seen the volume of business increase, but profits have remained static due to declining margins. Cost efficiency is a major factor in the success of the companies in this industry, because competition within the industry is high. Some of the processes within DIC are computerised. However, many of the processes which involve communication with customers are still paper based. Responses to telephonic queries from customers involve paper-based communications. Additionally, sales staff visits potential customers in their homes to try to sell them insurance policies for their homes and their possessions. These transactions are again paper based. This process is often slow and has led to complaints from both customers and the company's sales staff. DIC has also been receiving regular complaints from current and potential customers about errors in the paperwork that they receive.
