After identifying each force present you will draw a force diagram on the block that represents the object in question. Remember the size of your vector helps show how large a force is. 1. A grand piano is being lifted by a rope in a pulley system at a constant velocity to the 4th floor. What forces are being exerted on the piano? Forces: Gravity & Tension (from the rope) Tension Gravity 2. An elevator, suspended by a single cable, had just left the tenth floor and is speeding up as it descends toward the ground floor. 3. A jet plane is speeding down the runway, to the right, during takeoff. Air resistance is not negligible. 4. A spring loaded gun shoots a plastic ball. The trigger has just been pulled and the ball is starting to move down the barrel, westward. Friction is not negligible. The barrel is horizontal. 5. A bungee jumper has leapt off a bridge and is at the bottom of her fall. What forces are being exerted on the bungee jumper? For the final 3 questions use your forces and force diagrams to solve for the Net Force on the object. 6. A worker drags a crate across the factory floor with 25 N West pulling on a rope tied to the crate horizontally. A 13 N frictional force is making it more difficult.
