DIRECTIONS. You are a young, promising Assistant District Attorney in Albany. You are called into a conference with the Chief Deputy Assistant DA to discuss possible charges to be pursued in the following situation:

Al is an 18-year old local high school senior. Last Friday Al missed his bus to school. Unable to find the keys to his car, he goes out to the car and attempts to "hot wire" it like he read in his Criminal Justice text book, but because the textbook never explained how to actually do it, he is unable to successfully get the car going. Apparently distraught over this, former President Trump's recent remarks about being the subject of "the single greatest witch hunt in American history," and the fact that he missed his bus again, he pours himself a big cup o' coffee. Unable to find a warm glazed donut to go with his coffee, he adds about 6 oz of scotch from his Dad's liquor cabinet. He then remembers that his neighbor, Emil, usually leaves the keys in his car. Emil is sleeping in that day because he doesn't feel well. Al finds Emil's car keys in the car, takes the car to school, drinking his coffee and listening to NPR.

On the way to school, Al starts to worry that he hasn't done an important homework assignment. He thinks, "that teacher whose parents were never married, Mr. Nader, is really starting to bug me. If he talks anymore trash about my admirable outspoken nature, I'm gonna make him pay." He looks in the glove compartment for some money to buy a brownie, but only finds a couple of joints (marijuana), a disturbing number of photos of Dodie Clark ripped from some teen fan magazines, and a large hunting knife. He thinks to himself "hey that works for me", takes the knife, and puts it in his backpack.

Al gets to school in between classes. He runs into Gilligan, a classmate from his social studies class, in the cafeteria. Gilligan, a borderline sociopath but otherwise a good person, presses Al against a wall and says, "hey peacenik, what was with all your talk about make love not war in class yesterday. I'm getting a little sick of you coming down on our greatest President-ever Donald J. Trump..." Al then shouts "Listen you fascist poster child...," jumps up on a chair and knees Gilligan in the stomach, grabs a plastic knife from the utensils and says "one more word out of you and I'll cut your throat." At which point Mr. Nader comes into the cafeteria and takes Al down to the office. Al offers Mr. Nader $200 not to tell the police. Nader agrees. However, the police were already called by the principal and came and took Al away.
