Disciplinary Action Exercise Scenario- Walter is one of your better cooks. He's been working at your restaurant for the last 3 years starting as a busboy and progressing up to where he's your main broiler cook on the evening shift. He's usually able to handle "the rush" easily and has always kept himself calm even when things are hectic and the servers have made mistakes that he's had to "fix". Last night during an unexpectedly busy time one of the line cooks burned himself and had to leave to go to the clinic for treatment. Walter and one other cook were left to deal with a large number of orders and get the plates out in a timely manner. Tiffany (our resident ditzy server) had been making mistakes on almost every order she had placed that evening, which required the cooks to re-do or remake the plates. While there were only two cooks working, she did it again - returning a plate to the kitchen for a remake of broiled lobster when she had ordered crab originally and insisted that it be moved to the head of the queue so she could get it out to her customer. Walter picked up a crab leg and threw it at her, hitting her in the back of the head. She was not injured and didn't seem to think it was a big deal and was actually laughing as she left the kitchen, but you had walked into the kitchen just in time to see the incident. This was Walter's first incident of this nature. Your organization has a Zero-Tolerance policy toward violence in the workplace. There is also a rule that servers who make a mistake on an order have to wait their turn for a replacement plate (assuming that it was the server's fault). Since you were the manager on duty during the incident, you are required to deal with the problem. Remember, answer the questions with support from the textbook (post the page number) Describe IN DETAIL what your course of action would be to correct the infraction.
