Discuss why groups are very important to our identity and self-esteem. Evolutionarily, people survived when they lived in cohesive groups. Those who did not cooperate and were not trustworthy were expelled from the group and most-likely did not survive. Because the ones who survived were those who were bound to the group, we now have a need to belong to groups.
