Professionalism in Early Childhood Education is defined by the characteristics that the educators must embody to gain trust from others and represent the profession. Important factors and characteristics include positive and respectful relationships with children, families, colleagues and community stakeholders. ECE educator's appearance is a representation of the profession inside and outside operating hours, so we need to be mindful to wear clean clothes, have kept hair and pleasant smells. We need to be aware that the way we present ourselves, exhibits how serious we are about what we do. NEAYC states that ECE professionals need to adhere to ethical principles and choose to do the right thing. Everything we do has an impact on the children, families, colleagues, and community so they need to lead with honesty and integrity. There is always new research being released on strategies, standards, regulations, practices, and policies so as Early Childhood Educators, we need to commit to being life-long learners. We have to commit to ongoing professional development to gain greater understanding on child development, family and community partnerships, health and safety topics, observations and assessments, relationships and interactions, and culture, diversity, and inclusion. We have to hold ourselves and each other accountable to practice and use the knowledge and skills we obtain because it is in the best interest of the children, families, community, and society.
