Discuss your concept of what phenomenology (or qualia) means in your words (NOT copied from someplace on line). Read the following and think about what this means. This is critical to the concept of sensation and perception (what is out there is not what we directly perceive and we all have somewhat differing perceptions). Spend 50 words defining phenomenology/qualia in your words (make sure to use in text citations and APA style references). Then give an example of one that YOU have - you can use one of the ones listed below or another you find online or come up with your own example. Then discuss this in terms of how this might apply to another animal or machine(again cite and reference) . This should be 200 words (and again should include citations and references). Filler, citations, and references are NOT part of the word count and 200 words may not be sufficient. You need at least 2 different references. Give a clear title and make sure it is not similar to someone else's idea.

Even if some AI seems to be a thinking being by use of the Turing test (when interacting with an entity, you could not determine if human or machine), is it merely processing information or having an experience (think knowing vs understanding). Chances are, humans would not be able to design an AI to think exactly like a human and, because of that, would experience different phenomena than a human looking at the same thing. So how might machine perception differ from artificial intelligence? The same holds true for animals other than humans - how do they sense the world that might be different?

That brings us to qualia - which in a quick version, can be thought of as the mind-body problem. How I perceive the world is most likely not how you perceive the world - but how would we know what our differing experiences are? Some concepts to help you find ideas:

Turing test

What is it like to be a bat?

Inverted spectrum argument

Zombie argument (philosophical zombie) - similar in many ways to the AI issue

Knowledge argument

Explanatory gap
