Discussion #4 - The Case of Brock Landers (fictional) To avoid the temptation to "borrow" the ideas from others, students must first post in this forum before they can review and respond to the contributions of others. Brock Landers, a prosperous banker and respected member of his community, leads a secret life where he dresses in his wife's clothes and lingerie in the evening and sets out soliciting sex from strangers around town. He thinks that he has been recognized by neighbors on a couple of occasions and he has narrowly escaped getting arrested a couple of times. He reports that he can think about nothing but his secret sexual life as the day draws to a close and has even devised certain rituals leading up to his evening jaunts. When interviewed, Brock states "I find it impossible to control my urges and behavior, even though I feel scared and guilty after I'm back home." Nevertheless, Brock reasons that this "distraction" is necessary for him to be able to cope with his high-stress job. Though Brock tries to tell himself otherwise, the revelation of his secret will most likely one day destroy his home and professional life. According to this week's readings, do you think that Brock suffers from a sexual addiction? Why or why not? Support your answer with evidence from the case and from your weekly readings. Initial posts should be at least 2 distinct paragraphs in length (3-5 sentences minimum per paragraph) and don't forget to engage with at least 2 classmates in a meaningful way. Each peer response should be at least 3-5 meaningful sentences in length, and go beyond simply agreeing with your classmates and/or complimenting their efforts. When selecting a classmate to interact with, try to find those you disagree with (at least to some extent) so that you can explore this case from multiple angles.
