Discussion assignments are graded for both depth and accuracy. Your answers must be thoughtful, clear, and sufficient to answer the question posed. You will receive 3 points for your post, and 2 points for your reply. You must reply to AT LEAST one group member. DO NOT wait until the last minute to post. If you do, your group members will be unable to have sufficient time to reply to your post.
- In your individual assignment this week, you read an article and discussed whether the claims made in the article were accurate, whether the findings were correlational or causal, and the strength of the findings (https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2023-09-20/could-artificial-sweeteners-in-processed-food-raise-depression-risk). Now, I want you to discuss ways in which we might improve on the study.
Design a simpleexperimental studyyou think could test whether artificial sweeteners actually cause depression. Remember, an experimental study must contain a variable that the researcher is actively manipulating or changing (the IV) and a dependent variable that they expect to change after they manipulate that variable. You can ignore ethical limitations here and design any study you want. Your answers should contain:
- a hypothesis
- your independent variable (the variable you would manipulate or change),
- your dependent variable (the variable you would measure)
- Replyto a comment posted by a group member. In your reply state whether you agree or disagree with their new study design. Is their study a good study? Explain why you agree or disagree.
