Discussion Board no. 4

As we discussed in class, crimes and torts often look at the same event from different perspectives (the damage to the collectivity or to the individuals affected). We examined through Chapters 6 and 7 how the procedures related to these two sets of laws are different, with criminal procedures more heavily emphasizing the rights of the accused. Can you explain why this difference exists (consider that OJ Simpson was acquitted in a criminal court but lost the tort case for the alleged murder of his former wife and her partner)? Please explain your understanding of the rational for this difference and develop in no less than three sentences your views of whether this is right or procedures and principles should be more alligned.
