Discussion Essay (100 marks) Street imagery is a neoteric data source that provides visual information of the streets in the form of panoramic images in more than 100 countries. This includes static built environment features, people on the streets as pedestrians or cyclists, and vehicles. Most common sources of street imagery are several web-based providers-Google Street View (GSV), Bing StreetSide, and four providers specific to China (Baidu, Netease, Amap, and Tencent) (Geol et al., 2018). After Google launched GSV, Street View once became a hot topic of technology and privacy. Privacy advocates have objected to the GSV feature, that show engaging in activities visible from public property which they do not wish to be photographed and have published online. There do have studies shows that these novel data sources make our outdoor life (especially in travelling) more convenient. However, there also have privacy experts state that technology makes it increasingly easy to share pictures and video on the internet, the rights of free expression are being pitted against the rights to personal privacy.
