Visit the Web site of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Find two examples of how coded data are used by researchers. How might the RHIT and/or RHIA use this Web site on the job?

Discussion Two:

Define the minimum data elements needed in an electronic master patient index database. What optional data elements should be considered for inclusion? Why? What purposes will this database serve in an acute care facility? Long-term care/rehab facility? Outpatient surgical center? Physician Office?What data elements are in your practicum site's MPI?

When you do your Google searches, look at these two terms/phrases: Continuityof care and transition of care. What data elements are vital for these? You could also look at the Triple Aim of the Institute forHealthcareImprovement (IHI) and gear your posts to reflect how important the MPI is in achieving these goals.
