Discussion Questions 1. To be scalable, an intervention must be easy to extend across multiple entities with little to no training. How does the intervention used in this study rate as being scalable? 2. Do the additive levels of this intervention translate to any state within the United States? What about to any country across the globe? 3. In their discussion, the authors identify the fact that parents were not randomized to the number of IVR contacts, making it impossible to determine if parent motivation or number of IVR contacts explains the decrease in BMI z-score between those with six or more phone contacts versus five or fewer phone contacts. Why is this an appropriate conclusion? 4. How does this randomized controlled trial help address the childhood overweight and obesity epidemic? 5. The study does not include a true control group (a group not receiving an intervention). Would it have been ethical to include a control group? Why or whv not?
