Post one student:After finishing the Big Five Personality Inventory test, I wasn't surprised to see that 79% of my personality was labeled as Empathetic Idealist. The website defines empathetic idealists as "using insight and creativity to help others." I agree with this statement because I am always taking care of people. As I have mentioned before, I am a paraprofessional who works with children who have disabilities; a lot of these children are in wheelchairs, deaf, blind, non-verbal, on the spectrum, and more. In my profession, I take care of these students academically and physically, and I have to come up with new, fun, and creative ideas to help this student every day. I am also the oldest sibling, and to me, that means that I helped raise my three younger siblings; this may have had a significant influence on the profession I chose and why 79% of my personality has been identified as an empathetic idealist. This trait has influenced me today. I was taking care of a student in a wheelchair; this student gets about 1.5 hours of downtime on the bed we have in the classroom. I had to use many creative ideas to stretch this student's body out and lay them on their side; for example, I used two pillows, a foam wedge, and two blankets to hold their back up. This trait also reflects how I work with everyone; I recently found out that one of my coworkers is expecting a child, and I have been finding ways to help her lift the students without hurting her back or using too much force and giving her ideas as to how she can still work down low with the little ones.
Post 2 student:Take theBig Five Personality Inventory. Choose any one of the five factors and reflect on the results. Do you agree with the assessment? How has this personality trait recently influenced your behavior? How does this trait influence how you interact with others?
The factor I want to focus on after taking the test is Practical Caretaker which was 57% of my personality. The way this test describes this factor is, helps other people in practical, everyday ways.
Do you agree with the assessment?
I would have to say yes. I have found myself going out of my way to help anyone that calls for it if its for advice, or to move, or to help carry groceries.
How has this personality trait recently influenced your behavior?
This personality trait recently influenced my behavior in a few ways. My mom was experiencing a migraine one day and I made sure she was feeling okay enough so I could leave for work, I gave her some medicine and an ice pack. I had a friend call to get them out of a tough time, and I set aside time to talk them through their issues.
How does this trait influence how you interact with others?
I guess in a way, it always makes me open to help even if I don't know the person very well. I have the benefit of the doubt for each new individual that comes my way and if they need something, I would be there for them.
